Week 7 - Challenges to Sustainable Development

Today, Dr Suhaimi examined sustainable development through three interconnected perspectives: societal (promoting equity), economic (ensuring efficiency), and environmental (fostering responsibility). Pressing concerns like biodiversity decline, deforestation, pollution, and resource depletion require immediate action through sustainable measures such as recycling and waste minimization.

Dr Suhaimi also discussed, the illegal durian farming that leads to flooding, tolerating to the building of illegal temple and the faulty design of Jalur Gemilang by China.

Critical obstacles like political and economic instability, effective implementation, and strong governance were also highlighted. Instability can hinder progress, while good governance ensures accountability and leadership in advancing sustainability.

Addressing these global issues involves overcoming key challenges such as climate change, clean energy adoption, sustainable transportation, poverty reduction, resource conservation, public health improvement, responsible consumption, and social inclusion. Solving these problems demands cooperation between governments, organizations, and local communities to create lasting solutions.
