Week 6 - Roles of University and Sustainable Development
Under today's topic Dr Suhaimi discussed roles and responsibility of universities for sustainable development as well as covid's impact to universities and sustainable development agenda. Questions such as do student receive education that is needed by society needs or industry needs, being educated to be a balanced person or being prepared for job's employability, and where the role of Islam is played in the university was brought up. Some students said that the curriculum in Malaysia is not as advanced as USA, Germany, UK as so on, their curriculum is more structured and hands on. Most of the students said that they receive their education that leans more to the industry needs. Some argue being educated so that they can be a balanced person, while some argue that being educated to be a balanced person and prepared for job's employability can co-exist together. The role of Islam can be played as a life style in the university life it self, by singing Asma ul-Husna before starting a formal event, avoiding any class during prayer times to give students time to do their prayer in peace and much more.
Anthony Seldon & Oladimeji Abidoye once quoted "The factory mass teaching methods of the third revolution era have failed to conquer enduring problems of inequity and unfairness"
The difference of life-style before and after covid is a big turn around
Before covid- Manpower, Mind, Machine
After covid- Humanity, Heart, High touch, Humility
That has being said that education without a soul, cause unhappiness in oneselves

I do agree that the education in Malaysia is not as advanced as the United States, UK, Germany and many more.
