Week 4 - International Framework of Sustainable Development


In summary from week 4,

The UN conference was international cooperation regarding the problems the earth’s environment was facing.  It started in 1972, Stockholm where the UN discuss about the human development. Then after 20 years, the Rio de Janeiro conference took place in 1992. From the conference produced the Rio Declaration and agenda 21, plan of action where human activities have a negative impact on the environment. The UN also binded legally the framework convention on climate change (FCCC) and convention on biological diversity. The FCCC was signed by 154 countries. Not long after, in 1997 Kyoto protocol were made. One of the main focus was to target the emission reduction of greenhouse gases for each member countries. In the Jonhannesburg conference, 2002 focuses on oceans, coasts and island. One of the main successes was that governments agreed to halve the number of people lacking clean drinking water and basic sanitary by 2015. The Bali conference assembled together 180 countries with observers from the intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations and the media to produce results capable of providing a global response to the challenges of climate changes

 

Sejahtera concept

In order to achieve a balanced and harmonious individuals, an individual must have good physical, intellect, spiritual and emotion. It emphasizes justice, fairness, and coexistence with nature. Sejahtera was used as an initiatives like Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 and the Falsafah Pendidikan Kebangsaan.
